Running Back - Receiving Pitches

Modified: Tuesday, July 15 2008 05:19 by admin - Categorized as: football tips
Another important proficiency of playing the running back position requires the ability to catch pitches from the quarterback. These pitches are generally taken in the backfield about 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Here are some important aspects of receiving pitches:

1. The running back’s hands should be extended with his elbows slightly bent just above waist level.

2. The running back’s palm of his hands should both be facing up.

3. The running back must keep his eye on the ball and watch the ball into his hands.

4. The running back must use BOTH hands to make the catch to secure the catch.

5. Lastly, make sure the running back secures the ball before making any moves.
