Running Back Trip Drill

Drill Objective:

This drill will focus on teaching the running back how to keep good balance and control while defenders are trying to cut the legs out from under the running back.

Drill Setup:

Position a line of about 3-4 Tackle Dummies a few yards from the Quarterback and Running Backs.

Drill Instructions:

On the coaches command, have the running back receive a hand-off from the quarterback and work his way down the tackle dummies as they attempt to trip the running back and knock him off balance.

Drill Coaching Points:

  • Make sure the running back has complete control and balance as the defenders attempt to trip him.
