Receiver Quickness Drill

Drill Objective:

This football drill will focus on improving the quickness of the receiver. It will improve the receiver's ability to pick up the ball in mid-air. It can also be used to isolate the quarterback's and allow the coach to perfect the quarterback's passing.

Drill Setup:

You will need 3-4 Quarterbacks and 1 receiver for this drill. Each quarterback needs their own football. Setup the drill by having the quarterbacks form a circle about 15-20 yards yards from the receiver who stands in the middle of the quarterbacks.

Drill Instructions:

The coach will call out one of the quarterbacks by name. That quarterback will throw to the receiver who must quickly turn, find the ball and concentrate on catching the ball. The receiver then tosses the ball back to the quarterback and awaits the coaches command. This drill should be ran as quickly as possible to maximize the need for the receiver to think and react quickly.

For the first time through this drill, have the quarterback throw at half speed to let the receiver get adjusted to finding the direction of the quarterback.

Drill Coaching Points:

This receiving drill focuses on receiver quickness of finding the ball in mid-air. Make sure the receiver quickly turns their body towards the quarterback and catches the ball clean.
