Receiver Hand Eye Coordination & Tucking Drill

Drill Objective:

This football drill will focus on improving receiver's technique by concentrating on hand-eye coordination and tucking the ball after the catch.

Drill Setup:

Pair up four Quarterback's with four receiver's and have them face each other about 10 yards apart.

Drill Instructions:

The coach will shout one of the five commands below and the qb's and receivers must quickly react to the command and perform the command. These commands are:
  1. READY - which alerts the Quarterback to get ready to throw the ball.
  2. GO - which alerts the Quarterback to throw the ball to the receiver.
  3. CATCH - which alerts the Receiver to catch the ball and holds that position until the next command.
  4. TUCK - which alerts the Receiver to secure the ball away with head and eyes of the receiver locked on the ball.
  5. RETURN - which alerts the Receiver to throw the ball back to the Quarterback.

Drill Variations:

Make sure the receiver is thrown balls that are high, medium and low. Change up the drill by throwing different levels of passes.

Drill Coaching Points:

Focus on the receiver catching the ball clean with good concentration on the catch. Make sure the tuck is secured and the receiver's concentration is on the ball.
